SEC’s 80th Aquaculture Program on Management of Integrated Aquaculture – Agriculture Farming Systems
The Soy Excellence Center (SEC) - MENA is pleased to present its 80th Aquaculture Program on "Management of Integrated Aquaculture – Agriculture Farming Systems," taking place virtually on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, at 11:45 AM Cairo Time. This program aims to equip aquaculture professionals with practical knowledge on integrating aquaculture and agriculture to optimize resource use and enhance sustainability.
The sessions begin with an overview of the benefits and challenges of integrated aquaculture-agriculture systems, presented by Prof. Ahmed Nasr-Allah. The discussion focuses on how these systems can improve water use efficiency and enhance farm productivity. Following this, Dr. Mohamed Fathi Osman leads a session on selecting appropriate fish species and crops for integrated farming, emphasizing the compatibility between aquatic species and different crop types. He provides insights into designing efficient farm layouts that maximize space and resources. Prof. Safwat Gabran delivers a detailed presentation on managing water quality in integrated systems, highlighting strategies for maintaining optimal conditions for both fish and crops. Additionally, Dr. Diaa Al-Kenawy shares best practices for monitoring system health and avoiding common pitfalls in integrated farming.
The program concludes with an interactive Q&A session, offering participants the opportunity to engage with experts and gain deeper insights into integrated farming techniques. This training is designed for professionals looking to adopt sustainable practices by integrating aquaculture and agriculture, ensuring higher productivity and resource efficiency on their farms.

Prof. Salah Haggag
Aquaculture Consultant
Dr. Salah has over 30 years of consultancy experience in aquaculture industry. He holds PhD in Philosophy Doctor in Fish Microbiology, Faculty of Veterinary – Alexandria University in 2004.He is a consultant for national and international organizations, private companies, and government entities. He is expert in Integrated Aqua Agricultural projects in the desert lands using the well’s fresh water for intensive fish production. He was the Technical Adviser for the General Authority for Fisheries Development. He has excelled in delivering leading-edge aquaculture project development and management expertise to companies in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Emirates, and other countries. He worked as professor at King Saoud University-KSA & UAE. Dr. Haggag has participated in massive number of different scientific forums in Egypt, Libya, Yamen Mauritania, and Syria. He is key member of several committees of Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation to set up and discuss ministerial decisions. He was leading Al-Keram International Farms Project, which was chosen by the World Water Council in Japan year 2003 as one of the best 100 projects in the world that using underground water ideally.
Dr. Sherif Sadek
Immediate Past President, African Chapter, World Aquaculture Society and Aquaculture Consultant Office (ACO) Creator and Manager
During1986 1987, he has obtained a grant research study on the crustacean aquaculture at Auburn University, USA (Department of Fisheries and Allied Aquaculture). In 1998, he has passed an exam on the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii) culture, to obtain the degree of Docteur de l'INP from the Institut National Polytechnique (INP), Toulouse France. Since 1991, and till today, he was assigned as the creator and general manager of the firm "Aquaculture Consultant Office (ACO)". Sadek has been nominated as a consultant for different projects in North Africa and Arab countries. Since 2010 he is a partner and the general manager of the Egyptian Franco mariculture company (Egymarine co.), in Manzala lake, Egypt. He has published around 40 complete scientific papers in different international journals and also 35 short papers in different local and international aquaculture conferences. Sadek has been nominated to be the vice president for two Egyptian NGO organization: Egyptian Aquaculture Society ( EgAS ) and West Port Said Aquaculture Cooperative ( West PAC ). In August 2019 Sadek has been nominated the President for the African Chapter(AC) till March 2022, which belong to the World Aquaculture Society (WAS). The AC will look for the development of the African aquaculture countries in the continent.
Dr. Ibrahim El Shishtwy Hassan Belal
Aquaculturist and Aquaculture Nutritionist Consultant.
Dr. Belal earned a PhD in fish nutrition from Michigan State University's College of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Wildlife Department in East Lansing, Michigan. He received his master’s degree in Aquaculture from Auburn University's College of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Allied Aquaculture Department in Auburn, Alabama.
He served as a faculty and researcher in United Arab Emirates University from 1988-2004. He formerly served as a faculty and researcher at King Faisal University's College of Food and Agriculture in Al Hassa, Saudi Arabia from 2004-2023. He worked at the Research and Development National Aquaculture Centre in Abbassa, Sharkia, Egypt, From 1987 to 1988.
Dr. Belal has produced and co-authored several publications on Aquaculturist and Aquaculture Nutritionist, carbohydrates and fiber and tilapia, grass carp, shrimp (P. semisulicatus, molluscas). He has 44 peer-reviewed internal research papers. He has attended around 33 aquaculture conferences. He designs a ten plan for aquaculture Development for the Ministry of Agriculture in Saudi Arabia. Also, he Developed Aquaculture Index for Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority. He is membership of professional Organization (American Fisheries Society, World Aquaculture Society, Aquaculture Engineering Society). Member of National Aquaculture Committee of Abu Dhabi UAE. He conducted several National trainings for national UAE fish farmers and international training (organizing WAS conference in Al Ain UAE on Aquaponics).

Prof. Diaa Al-Kenawy
Head of Research, CLAR, Egypt
Diaa works as Head of Research at the Central Lab for Aquaculture Research, CLAR. He currently has over 30 years of experience in aquaculture. Diaa has studied Agricultural sciences and got a PhD in aquatic toxicology 2006 and has participated in and led many research and development projects as a scientist at WorldFish (1998-2021). He is mostly concerned about environment pollution and water quality and impact on fish resources. Diaa is involved in aquaculture and fisheries training programs to teach participants how to produce more affordable and nutritious food from sustainable fish farming. He led the WorldFish Egypt’s research on fish feeds and nutrition through the Global FISH CRP and is enthusiastic of teaching farmers and student’s the best farming practices.
