provision of footbaths at the entrance, strict entry to non staffs and clean protective gear.

Bio security is very important to mitigate loss
-
Make sure to limit entry of different people into the farm and when entry cant be prevented, ensure thorough disinfection of each individual.

Effective biosecurity involves preventing the introduction and spread of diseases in aquaculture, agriculture, or other biological systems. Here are practical steps to ensure strong biosecurity:
1. Risk Assessment & Planning
Identify potential disease threats and entry points.
Develop a biosecurity plan tailored to your facility or farm.
Train staff and workers on biosecurity protocols.
2. Access Control & Movement Restrictions
Limit entry to essential personnel only.
Require visitors to disinfect hands, boots, and equipment.
Implement vehicle disinfection stations at entry points.
3. Quarantine & Health Monitoring
Isolate new or sick animals for observation before introduction.
Regularly monitor and test for signs of disease.
Establish a contingency plan for disease outbreaks.
4. Hygiene & Sanitation
Disinfect tools, equipment, and surfaces regularly.
Provide footbaths, handwashing stations, and clean protective gear.

All visitors should always sanitize their hands and clean their shoes properly.
Three major Biosecurity components
1. Isolation,
2. Traffic Control,
3. Sanitation.
One main method of biosecurity is preventing diseases from entering the operation.

To achieve effective biosecurity in poultry farming, practical steps include: strict access control, thorough sanitation and hygiene practices, dedicated farm clothing, pest control, proper waste management, regular disinfection, monitoring for disease, visitor protocols, employee education, and maintaining appropriate distances between poultry houses; all aimed at preventing the introduction and spread of diseases within the flock
Veterinary consultation:
Work closely with a veterinarian to develop a comprehensive biosecurity plan tailored to your farm.
Local regulations:
Ensure compliance with local biosecurity regulations and disease reporting requirements.
Production management:
Maintaining appropriate distances between poultry houses with different age groups
All-in, all-out system to minimize disease transmission between flocks
Proper feed and water management
Pest control:
Rodent control measures including traps and bait stations
Insect control

These three components come under three guiding principles of biosecurity, which are: bio-exclusion – the prevention of outside agents from entering a farm or other facility and spreading among the animal population; bio-management.
-
- Fencing of farm perimeter to prevent unwanted visitors.
- Test water source for minerals, bacteria, chemical contamination and pathogen load.
- Concrete stage with suitable water and power supply for sanitation of vehicles.
- Suitable location for storage of bagged feed.
-
Discourage unnecessary visitors from the farm
-
Ensure your staffs doesn’t visit farms that are disease infested!!!
-
- Ensure vehicles entering your farm (including feed, milk truck, animal movement, maintenance, and deliveries) follow a developed entry protocol that may include cleaning and disinfection.
