There are many practices that can take place during heat stress. Perhaps the most important ones are to offer cool drinking water, preferably between 10 and 15oC and for sure below 24oC during the hot hours of the day. Also, during heat peak hours, feed withdrawal may be implemented and feed may be offered during the cooler hours of the day or during the night along with artificial lighting. Make sure to use the correct stocking density recommended by the breeder for heat stress situations. Finally, an appropriate mechanical ventilation system may be needed to reduce the negative effect of heat stress on growth performance.
