Glycine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, serine, threonine, tryptophan, valine are all consider essential amino acids for poultry and must be provided in the diet. Glycine and serine are mainly needed in low crude protein diets. Lysine, methionine, threonine are commonly supplemented as crystalline amino acids to poultry diets. Crystalline isoleucine and valine are also becoming more affordable and available to use in practical poultry diets. In general, as we reduce crude protein levels in feed more crystalline amino acids supplementation will be needed.

Essential amino acids for poultry include:
- Lysine: Crucial for protein synthesis and growth.
- Methionine: Important for feather development and overall metabolism.
- Threonine: Supports immune function and gut health.
- Tryptophan: Aids in protein synthesis and influences behavior and mood.
These amino acids must be supplied through the diet, as poultry cannot synthesize them.
