Many other reports have confirmed that using insect meals as an alternative protein source in broilers resulted in a reduced FCR and improved meat quality indicators.

Using insect meal as an alternative protein source in poultry diets can have several positive implications, including improved growth performance, reduced environmental impact due to lower greenhouse gas emissions, potential cost-effectiveness, enhanced feed conversion efficiency, and even potential benefits to poultry health by providing additional nutrients and antimicrobial peptides, while also potentially decreasing the need for antibiotics in some

The definition of alternative protein ingredients varies widely around the world. However, in most places alternative protein ingredients are normally used for any ingredient that is not soybean meal. In other to used alternative proteinaceous ingredients we need to know the full nutritional profile of the ingredient. This is, the content of protein and amino acid and their respective digestibility coefficients, fat, starch, metabolizable energy, crude fiber, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber, soluble and insoluble fiber, vitamins, and minerals. The next step is to determine the presence of antinutritional factors or other inclusion rate limitations. Once we have the full nutrient profile, inclusion limitations, and price, we can add the alternative proteinaceous ingredient to a least-cost formulation software to determine its most economical use in diets for poultry. Perhaps the main implications of alternative ingredients, in general, is the consistency of variability in the nutrient profile as well as availability and inventory. If the alternative ingredient is sources locally, perhaps the biggest implication is the reduction of fossil fuels to transport traditional ingredients from their place of production to the feed mill.
