    • Mixing: Ground ingredients are mixed thoroughly with additives such as vitamins, minerals, and binders to ensure a consistent formulation.

    2. Conditioning

    • Moisture Addition: Steam or water is added to the mixed feed to increase moisture content, typically to around 15-18%. This softens the ingredients.
    • Temperature Increase: The conditioning process also raises the temperature (often to about 70-80°C), which helps to gelatinize starches and improve pellet quality.

    3. Pelleting

    • Extrusion: The conditioned feed is forced through a die in a pellet mill. The die has holes that shape the feed into pellets of specific diameters.
    • Compression and Cutting: As the feed is pushed through the die, it is compressed into pellets. A knife cuts the pellets to the desired length.

    4. Cooling

    • Cooling Process: Freshly pelleted feed is hot and moist, so it is passed through a cooler (usually a counter-flow cooler) to reduce temperature and moisture content.
    • Benefits of Cooling: This step helps to harden the pellets, improving durability and storage stability.

    5. Screening

    • Screening: The cooled pellets are screened to remove any fines (small particles) that may have been produced during pelleting.
    • Recycling Fines: Fines can be recycled back into the feed formulation.

    • Packaging: The final product is packaged in bags or bulk containers for distribution.
    • Storage: Proper storage conditions (cool, dry) are essential to maintain feed quality and prevent spoilage.
