How can poultry producers manage the risk of zoonotic diseases, and what protocols should be in place to ensure food safety?

If birds are known to carry a zoonotic disease, we should provide all workers in contact with infected birds with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as facilities to change clothing, footwear, wash hands or take a shower. These biosecurity practices should protect humans from contracting the diseases from the infected birds and spreading it to other humans outside the farm environment. Remember, containment is the key to avoid the spread of any disease.
