Sanitation, hygiene, and disinfection are crucial for disease control, working together to prevent the spread of infectious diseases by removing or eliminating pathogens from the environment and personal surfaces.

Sanitation, hygiene and disinfection otherwise known as Cleaning and Disinfection (C&D) helps to sustain biosecurity on poultry farms. Proper C&D practices reduces the pathogen load in poultry houses. For C&D to yield optimal results, adequate resting periods and hygiene audits must be observed to ensure very minimal contamination of poultry houses. Clean houses are beneficial to optimal chick performance because the chicks are protected from pathogen that will put pressure on their fragile immune systems and compromise their growth.

1. Reduces disease-causing pathogens: Removing manure and wet litter minimizes the buildup of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.
2. Controls fly and rodent infestation: Pests such as rats, flies, and beetles spread diseases like Salmonella, Newcastle, and fowl typhoid.
3. Prevents respiratory diseases: Reducing ammonia buildup from droppings prevents chronic respiratory disease (CRD) and Infectious Bronchitis.
4. Minimizes water contamination: Regular cleaning of drinkers prevents bacterial growth like <em data-start=”1146″ data-end=”1155″ style=”background-color: var(–bb-content-background-color); font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”>E. coli and <em data-start=”1160″ data-end=”1173″ style=”background-color: var(–bb-content-background-color); font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”>Clostridium.
5. Lowers mortality rates: Clean surroundings reduce stress and disease outbreaks.

Sanitation is the proper management of wastage. The major role of sanitation are reduce pathogen producing agents, improve living environment & control waterborne disease.
Hygiene is the cleaning practices for reduce disease producing agent. It is improve animal welfare, biosecurity.
Disinfectants is a chemical agents that kill or destroy the pathogens on target area. The major role are kill viruses, fungi & bacteria.
