Using vaccine to manage coccidia in broiler production is not economic wise as birds are short live , ranging from 4 weeks to 7 weeks depending on market demand. As a production manager with the leading brand in Nigeria, I have developed management practices that help reduce coccidia in every production season.

Both coccidiosis vaccination and anticoccidial drugs are effective in controlling coccidiosis, but their effectiveness depends on your production system, farm conditions, and management goals.

Using coccidia vaccine is more effective because prevention is better than cure

    Daily sanitization
Cleaning the lines out is just one part of the solution, Watkins said. After the
system is cleaned, it should be flushed with a sanitizer to prevent the
reappearance of microbes in the water supply. Sanitizers should also be added
to the system daily to control microbes in the system.
Any sanitizer must be safe for the birds to consume and used in the proper
amount. Moreover, it should be compatible with water, easy to use, easy to
monitor and cost-effective for the farm.
    Chlorine
Watkins said she prefers chlorine because of its low cost and effectiveness.
However, it is not a perfect sanitizer.

If you are raising broilers for 5 weeks, I will advise using anticoccidial drugs because it would not be economical to use a coccidia vaccine. The vaccine is expensive, and since broilers have a short production cycle, they won’t have enough time to develop full immunity before slaughter but if you are raising breeders (parent stock), using the coccidia vaccine is beneficial. It helps build long-term immunity, which is then passed on to their offspring, giving them better protection against coccidiosis.
