The two types of internal parasites that affect poultry are worms and protozoa. Usually, low levels of infestation do not cause a problem and can be left untreated. Clinical signs of a parasite infestation include unthriftiness, poor growth and feed conversion, decreased egg production, and, in severe cases, death.

Poultry are commonly affected by both external and internal parasites, which can significantly reduce productivity, affect growth, and even cause death if left unmanaged. Here’s a breakdown of the major parasites and how they can be managed:
—
1. External Parasites
These live on the skin, feathers, or in the environment of the birds.
a. Lice
Signs: Feather loss, restlessness, reduced egg production.
Management:
Use insecticidal sprays or dusts (e.g., permethrin).
Clean and disinfect housing regularly.
Replace litter and bedding frequently.
b. Mites (e.g., red mites, northern fowl mites)
Signs: Anemia, pale combs, decreased egg production, skin irritation.
Management:
Use appropriate miticides.
Treat birds and environment (roosts, cracks).
Maintain hygiene and avoid overcrowding.
c. Fleas and Ticks
Signs: Irritation, scratching, reduced performance.
Management:
Use topical treatments and sprays.
Maintain clean surroundings.

Major parasites affecting poultry include mites (like northern fowl mites and red mites), lice, worms (helminths like roundworms), and protozoa (like coccidia and Histomonas).
-
Internal parasites (endoparasites)
1.Ascaridia gali 2.Heterakis gallinarium 3.Ralilitenia spp.
External parasites: Mites (orinthosyssus sylviarium ) 2.Lice ( Goniocotes gallinae)
Management :Clean house regularly
Deworm birds every 3-6 months
control insect population

Major poultry parasites include mites (like red and northern fowl mites), lice, worms (like roundworms and tapeworms), and protozoa (like coccidia and blackhead), and can be managed through good sanitation, proper litter management, regular inspections, and targeted treatments.

Coccidiosis is the major parasitic disease. Improve the farm management and minimize the effects of parasite.
