The main factor associated with pododermatitis in birds is high moisture content of the bedding substrate. This can be caused because due to poor ventilation, high stocking density, not enough depth of the litter, and other environmental factors. Pododermatitis index is currently used in many countries around the world as an objective measurement of animal welfare. If pododermatitis is present in your birds, please check and adjust your husbandry practices to reduce the incidence.
