This is used to indicate the level of toxicity of a dangerous chemical. It may be an insecticide, a herbicide. 50% indicate what will kill half the population while 90% means 90% of the population. In general, the smaller the quantity the kills so much, the more toxic the substance (Herbicide and their uses by CTA Agrodok).

In a feedmill context, LD50 and LD90 refer to the lethal dose of a substance (like a pesticide) needed to kill 50% and 90% of a test population, respectively, providing insights into the substance’s toxicity. LD50 is often used as a benchmark for toxicity, while LD90 provides a more stringent measure.
