Ammonia accumulation
Increase in disease risk
Fly and parasite infestations

Respiratory disease, eye health issues, and reduced production

Poor litter leads to ammonia built up and respiratory issues. It also leads to an increase in the fly population and subsequent disease/pathogen spreads through flies as vector. Poor litter conditions may trigger footpad and skin problems and finally the poor condition of litter is an environmental hazard for the farm personnels.

Also leads to the development of heat which will in turn cause heat stress.

Accumulated moist litter increases relative humidity, especially in closed housing. This raises the risk of heat stress, especially in tropical environments.Accumulated moist litter increases relative humidity, especially in closed housing. Ammonia toxicity will prone birds to respiratory infections
Birds will also be subjected to heat stress.
Feed digestibility and utilisation will be adversely affected.
Other litter borne diseases are sancrosanct .
-
All of these eventually lead to poor yield, either meat or egg production.
