When using high-fibrous diets for birds, particularly fast-growing broilers, please refer to maximum inclusion level recommendations from the breeder and nutritionists. Furthermore, consider how much fiber is soluble versus insoluble. Some soluble fibers can increase the viscosity of digesta, which is going to negatively affect the ability of birds to digest and absorb nutrients. This is one good reason to supplement poultry diets with exogenous carbohydrases. Make sure to use the appropriate carbohydrase for the existing substrate in the diet as there are many types of carbohydrases in the market.

Soluble dietary fibers are mainly responsible for reducing blood cholesterol and reducing the absorption of glucose in the small intestine and act as a potential prebiotic constituent (48, 49), whereas insoluble fibers increase water absorption in the intestinal tract and regulate the other intestinal activities (50).
