A shed floor “sweating,” or developing condensation, is typically caused by temperature differences between the shed’s interior and the ground. This difference leads to warm, humid air condensing on the cooler surface of the floor, creating water droplets.
-
Poor ventilation, high humidity, and temperature differences between inside and outside the shed are common factors.
-
Poor ventilation is one of the commonest reasons for sweaty floors. the condensation at the intersection of 2 different temperatures (Floor temperature and cool air coming in or vice versa) causes floor sweating

CAUSAL FACTORS OF WET LITTER IN BROILERS
The attached review “The multidimensional causal factors of ‘wet litter’ in chicken-meat production” highlights:
- Wet litter in poultry sheds is a complex issue, with many interrelated causes.
- Micro-environment and housing factors contribute most acutely to wet litter.
- Disease and diet/nutrition contribute to wet litter but are less obvious.
-
Concrete sweating usually occurs when warm air comes into contact with a cooler concrete slab and it causes the concrete floor to sweat. Continue reading to learn how to prevent and reduce concrete sweating.
-
Causes of Sweating or wet shed floor are as follows.
Congestion or overcrowding of the birds or Broilers house in the pen due to inadequate floor space.
Poor house ventilation.
High dietary Sodium and chlorine.
Disease factors that predisposes birds to watery droppings or diarrhea.
Poor water management in the poultry shed occasioned by water spillage or droppings on the floor. For example, nipple leakages, spilled watering equipment etc.
Rainy water entering the pen due to the improper direction of the pen house during construction.
