The key stages of the feed milling process transform raw ingredients into a nutritionally complete, stable, and digestible feed product.

Key Stages of Feed Milling
Raw Material Receiving and Storage: Ingredients (grains, protein meals, additives) are unloaded, sampled for quality, cleaned of impurities, and stored in silos or warehouses.
Dosing and Weighing (Batching): Computer-controlled scales accurately weigh out specific quantities of each ingredient according to a pre-set formula (recipe).
Grinding: Raw materials pass through a Hammer Mill or Roller Mill to reduce particle size. This increases the surface area for better digestion and easier pelleting.
Mixing: All ingredients, including micro-additives like vitamins and minerals, are blended in a Mixer to ensure a homogenous nutritional profile in every bite.
Conditioning: The mash is treated with dry steam and heat. This process gelatinizes starches, kills pathogens (like Salmonella), and acts as a lubricant for the pelleting process.
Pelleting or Extrusion:
Pelleting: The hot mash is compressed through a metal die to form solid cylinders.
Extrusion: High-pressure cooking used primarily for fish feed to create floating or sinking properties.
Cooling and Drying: Fresh pellets are hot and moist. They pass through a Counter-flow Cooler to reduce temperature and moisture content to ambient levels for stability.
Sifting and Coating: Pellets are screened to remove dust (fines). In some cases, fats or enzymes are sprayed onto the surface of the finished pellet.
Packaging and Dispatch: The final product is weighed and packed into bags or loaded into bulk trucks for transport to farms.
