Feed formulation is a dynamic process where species-specific biological needs and age-related growth stages determine the exact balance of nutrients needed for health and productivity. Different species have unique digestive physiologies, including varying protein deposition needs and distinct metabolic responses to ecological stressors. Moreover, an animal’s age greatly impacts its nutritional priorities; for example, younger fish in early growth phases usually require higher protein levels and better feed conversion ratios (FCR) to support quick development compared to mature broodstock. As a result, formulas must be adjusted to accommodate these changes in feeding habits and physiological indicators to achieve optimal growth efficiency and immune support.

Both the age and species of an animal are primary determinants in feed formulation, as they directly influence an animal’s unique nutritional requirements, digestive capabilities, and physiological status.
