Mitigating material loss/shrinkage in the feed mill

In an era where feed raw material supplies are unpredictable while world prices are almost always trending upwards, the name of the game for many feed millers in Asia for the next several years is survival. Anyone still standing when this regime of feed ingredient scarcity reverses its course will stand to have a sustainable profit picture for several years afterwards.

One of the most neglected aspects in feedmill operations during times of material abundance is material loss or shrinkage. While the range of the loss may vary from feedmill to feedmill across Asia, reducing such loss to the bare minimum can now be a matter of survival.

The discussant aims to trace the sources of material loss or shrinkage across the entire feedmill process flow, not only on the manufacturing aspect but on the storage aspect as well. He will try to give some detailed measures with which to mitigate the loss for each process station. When applicable, he will try to give some estimates of the possible investment and the financial returns.

The discussant aims to foster an atmosphere of urgency in pursuing the mitigation measures because the window of opportunity for implementation and achieving positive results gets smaller before unprofitability sounds the death knell for your own feedmilling operations.
