Many important factors have been named like nutrient needs of the hens, ingredient availability, ingredient nutrient content, ingredient quality, ingredient price, and many more. I would like to add ingredient restriction use, as we may want to impose maximum inclusion levels for certain ingredients. Another aspect is the physical form and solubility of the calcium source for hens. A calcium (e.g., limestone) with particle size between 2 and 4 mm should represent 50% to 60% of the entire calcium source for laying hens.
