Building a least-cost formulation program in Excel - Part 1

In this module we will build a formulation program that runs in Excel and uses the Excel Solver Add-in. We will run through the basics of formulation including:

  • Building a feed ingredient database
  • Creating formula specifications
  • Running a manual formulation system for calibration
  • Setting up the Solver to run optimisation
  • Running a formulation
  • Basic investigation of alternatives in ingredients using different SBM sources

Instructor Bio

Mr. Matthew Clark is the owner of FeedGuys Resources Pte Ltd in Singapore, which specialises in feed formulation technology including both software implementation and management training around the feed formulation process. Matthew graduated from Wye College, University of London in 1980 and has worked in the SE Asian feed business since 1983. Matthew has been involved both in marketing feed additive products in the region as well as working on the Brill® Formulation program with many regional feed producers. Matthew’s experience includes working in three poultry integrators as a nutritionist and General Manager.

Matthew’s current activity under FeedGuys is to continue to offer training programs for nutritionists, purchasers and business managers on the application of optimisation software to improve the financial performance of both feed mills and poultry processors.
