Precision Feed Formulation to Maximize Profit in Pig Farming

Precision feed formulation requires accurate nutrient composition in feed ingredients and animal nutrient requirements. Importantly, specific nutrient requirements for maximum growth rate, minimum FCR, and maximum carcass quality must be considered. Minimizing FCR promotes maximum profit due to the increasing ROI, improving lean accumulation, reducing pollutant excretion, and improving the immune system. To maximize dietary energy utilization, the formulation of the diet based on a net energy system must be considered. In terms of dietary protein, reducing dietary protein level usually improves protein efficiency ratio, using SID amino acids (AAs) requirement can decrease total dietary protein intake and improve the utilization. Since animals require amino acids for protein synthesis, precision SID AAs requirement should be supplied. Commercially, precise information on corn and soybean (net energy and SID AAs) is widely provided, while this information of local feed ingredients or by-product is limited and inconsistency. Using proximate analysis of feed ingredients and completed feed to predict net energy and SID AAs via NIRs is a tool for precision feed formulation and maximizing the profit of the farm.
