Role of soft skills in the Animal Husbandry industry
In the animal husbandry industry, soft skills refer to the interpersonal and communication abilities that enhance effectiveness in working with animals and people. These skills are essential for building
strong relationships with colleagues, farmers, veterinarians, and other stakeholders. Therefore it is good to invest some of our time and learning to enhance such skills. On the larger picture – our overall efficiencies will contribute to global food security and economic stability. In this interactive session with Dr.G.Gopal Reddy will reflect on how to improve some of these skills further and apply them at the workplace.
Some key aspects that will be discussed are:
1. Communication and collaboration: Poultry producers need to interact with suppliers, veterinarians, and customers. Better communication skills can help build better relationships, negotiate more efficiently, and market their products successfully.
2. Enhancing problem-solving and decision making: Self management here helps in the ability to identify issues with animal health, production, or farm operations and find practical, sustainable solutions. This resilience is required to navigate the ups and downs in the industry.
3. Encouraging adaptability , life long learning and teamwork: Collaborating with others is essential, especially on large farms where different workers may handle various aspects of animal care and management. The industry is constantly evolving due to changes in technology, market demand, and environmental conditions, so being flexible is important. Never to give up on continuous learning.
4. Fostering entrepreneurial mindset and Leadership: Possessing an entrepreneurial spirit can help tackle risk assessments, financial management and innovation which are crucial for developing new business opportunities and expanding into value added products. Supervising teams and guiding them through tasks, ensuring productivity, and maintaining a safe working environment are all part of strong leadership.
