SEC’s 85th Aquaculture Production Training Program on Recent Technology of the In Pond Raceway Farming System
The Soy Excellence Center (SEC) - MENA presents its “85th Aquaculture Production Training Program on Recent Technology of the In Pond Raceway Farming System " held virtually on Wednesday, February 05th, 2025, at 11:45 AM Cairo Time. This program focuses on equipping aquaculture professionals with essential knowledge on recent technologies of the In Pond Raceway Farming Systems.
Key sessions include an overview of the aquaculture status in Egypt: limitation and opportunities by Prof. Salah Mesalhy, followed by a presentation on principles of In-Pond Raceway System (IPRS) by Dr. Ahmed Nasr-Allah. Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Gazar addresses the water quality management in IPRS systems, emphasizing practical solutions for optimal farm management.
The private sector experience is discussed by Eng. Atef Abdel Gawad, while Prof. Diaa Al-Kenawy provides practical tips and techniques to avoid common mistakes in fish farming.

Prof. Ahmed Nasr-Allah
Country Director, WorldFish Egypt
Ahmed is the Country Director of WorldFish, Egypt since September 2020. He has a long experience as a scientist in the sustainable aquaculture department in WorldFish since 2013. His main specialization area is production system and value chain development. Ahmed has a long field and research experience in Aquaculture since 1988. During which he managed several bilateral projects in Egypt and several African countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia and Eritrea. Ahmed is coordinating an important capacity building program at the Fish for Africa Innovation Hub, Abbassa, Egypt in cooperation with USSEC/SEC. He is a member of several national and regional committees. He is a Principle Research in the Central Laboratory for Aquaculture Research (CLAR) and seconded to WorldFish. He holds a M.Sc. in Aquaculture Management and Planning (University of Hull, UK) and a Ph.D. in Aquaculture (Suez Canal University). Ahmed publications record exceeds 50 articles (per reviewed papers, conference paper, technical report and book chapter). His research interest areas are fish farming systems, water use efficiency in aquaculture and value chain analyses of aquaculture and fisheries sector.
Prof. Mohamed El Gazar
Aquaculture Consultant
ELGAZZAR has over than 30 years of professional experience in different areas of Aquaculture (governmental and private sector). ELGAZZAR Holds a Professional Doctoral degree in 2015 at "Aquaculture Projects Management" from Cambridge International UK. He is a consultant for National fish projects hold by (ELDAWLYA co. and ELWATANIA co.) hatching and fatting blue fin tuna BFT under the Ministry of Defense. He was a Fisheries Consultant in Arab Organization for Agriculture Development (League of Arab States). He started his career in General Authority for Fish Resources Development (GAFRD) In 1983 and in 2014 He became the Chairman of (GAFRD).
Eng. Atef Abdel Gawad
Farms Owner
He worked in fish farming since 1993. In addition to trading fish and feed, he completed number of training programs at WorldFish between 2000 and till present, earning the certification to instruct farmers. Additionally, he provided training to groups of Lake Governorate farm owners. Up until 2005, he owned a single farm before expanding it to other farms through development and production. In 2011, he started fish feed company. He visited number of European and Asian nations to observe the latest developments and technologies in fish farming.
Prof. Diaa Al-Kenawy
Head of Research, CLAR, Egypt
Diaa works as Head of Research at the Central Lab for Aquaculture Research, CLAR. He currently has over 30 years of experience in aquaculture. Diaa has studied Agricultural sciences and got a PhD in aquatic toxicology 2006 and has participated in and led many research and development projects as a scientist at WorldFish (1998-2021). He is mostly concerned about environment pollution and water quality and impact on fish resources. Diaa is involved in aquaculture and fisheries training programs to teach participants how to produce more affordable and nutritious food from sustainable fish farming. He led the WorldFish Egypt’s research on fish feeds and nutrition through the Global FISH CRP and is enthusiastic of teaching farmers and student’s the best farming practices.
