The Soy Excellence Center (SEC) - MENA presents its “SEC’s 89th Aquaculture Production Training Program on Cage Aquaculture Production Practices " held virtually on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, at 12:45 PM Cairo Time. This program focuses on equipping aquaculture professionals with essential knowledge on Cage Aquaculture Production Practices.
The course is conducted in Arabic language
Key sessions include an overview of the current status of fish cages in Egypt & investment opportunities in marine cages by Prof. Salah Mesalhy Aly, followed by a presentation on traditional cages design, positioning and management by Eng. Gomaa Abdel Moaaz. Prof. Mohamed Osman addresses the Importance of fish feed management in cages farming.
Interaction between fish cages and environment is discussed by Prof. Nabil Ibrahim, Prof. Ahmed Nasr - allah will present videos of cage farming in Greece, and Nigeria International Experience while Prof. Diaa Al-Kenawy provides practical tips and techniques to avoid common mistakes in fish farming.
The training concludes with an open discussion, Q&A session, and closing remarks by the distinguished panel, fostering engagement and knowledge exchange among participants.

Eng. Gomaa Abdel Moez Youssef
Production Manager at Kilo 21 Hatchery in Alexandria affiliated with the Lakes and Fish Resources Protection and Development Agency (LFRPDA ).
He studied at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and holds a Master's degree in Marine Fish Nutrition and a PhD researcher in Marine Fish Hatching and Care He has 18 years of experience in hatching and aquaculture.
Working on the marine aquaculture development Project in Egypt in two phases (MADE 1 and MADE11)( the Italian project).
Supervising marine fish hatching at the Barakat Ghalioun Hatchery affiliated with the National Company for Fish Resources and Aquaculture (NCFA).

Prof. Mohamed Fathi Osman
Prof. of Fish Nutrition Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University
In 1988, Professor Osman received his PhD from Gottingen University (Germany) in Fish Nutrition. In addition to the academic position, he had performed several consulting assignments in different feed factories. He was responsible for creating different fish feed formulas especially for tilapia, carp, mullet, sea bream, sea bass and shrimp. Since 2017 he is an aquaculture consultant for the USSEC in Egypt. In 2006, he worked as aquaculture consultant for the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation. In 2008, he was loaned from the University to the Ministry of Agriculture as a Chairman of the General Authority for Fish Resources Development (GAFRD).In 2011, he was hired as President of the Agriculture Research Center (ARC).He is also Fellow of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research.

Prof. Nabil A. Ibrahim
Professor, October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA)
Prof. Nabil is currently a professor of biostatistics and quantitative genetics in the October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA), professor of limnology and genetics at the Central Lab for Aquaculture Research (CLAR), and international consultant for the genetic improvement programs at some international organizations. He was working for the WorldFish (Non-profit international organization) as a data analyst from 2004 to 2008 and he was leading the genetics programs at the WorldFish – Egypt for producing the genetically improved fish species including Genetically Improved Abbassa Nile Tilapia "GIANT" and African catfish from 2009 to 2020. In 2013, Dr. Nabil accepted a Professor Position at CLAR and Scientist at the WorldFish. He significantly participated in the dissemination of GIANT to the fish farming sector. He has a strong contribution to capacity building through lecturing and practical demonstrations for more than 2500 local, regional, and international trainees who came from 110 countries on genetic improvement practices and some aquaculture related topics. Prof. Nabil has about 30 peer-reviewed papers in Scopus, international and national journals, and four short books in aquaculture related topics. He is a reviewer for the journal of Aquaculture Reports (ScienceDirect & Elsevier journal), external examiner for international dissertations for the Pakistani University Bahauddin Zakariya – Multan and the Egyptian Journal for Aquatic Biology and Fisheries.

Dr. Ahmed Nasr-Allah
Country Representative, WorldFish Egypt
Ahmed is the Country Representative of WorldFish, Egypt since September 2020. He has a long experience as a scientist in the sustainable aquaculture department in WorldFish since 2013. His main specialization area is production system and value chain development. Ahmed has a long field and research experience in Aquaculture since 1988. During which he managed several bilateral projects in Egypt and several African countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia and Eritrea. Ahmed is coordinating an important capacity building program at the Fish for Africa Innovation Hub, Abbassa, Egypt in cooperation with USSEC/SEC. He is a member of several national and regional committees. He is a Principle Research in the Central Laboratory for Aquaculture Research (CLAR) and seconded to WorldFish. He holds a M.Sc. in Aquaculture Management and Planning (University of Hull, UK) and a Ph.D. in Aquaculture (Suez Canal University). Ahmed publications record exceeds 50 articles (per reviewed papers, conference paper, technical report and book chapter). His research interest areas are fish farming systems, water use efficiency in aquaculture and value chain analyses of aquaculture and fisheries sector.

Prof. Diaa Al-Kenawy
Head of Research, CLAR, Egypt
Diaa works as Head of Research at the Central Lab for Aquaculture Research, CLAR. He currently has over 30 years of experience in aquaculture. Diaa has studied Agricultural sciences and got a PhD in aquatic toxicology 2006 and has participated in and led many research and development projects as a scientist at WorldFish (1998-2021). He is mostly concerned about environment pollution and water quality and impact on fish resources. Diaa is involved in aquaculture and fisheries training programs to teach participants how to produce more affordable and nutritious food from sustainable fish farming. He led the WorldFish Egypt’s research on fish feeds and nutrition through the Global FISH CRP and is enthusiastic of teaching farmers and student’s the best farming practices.
