SEC's Aquaculture Program on Marine Fish Farming in Egypt
The Soy Excellence Center (SEC) is pleased to present its "Aquaculture Program on Marine Fish Farming in Egypt", scheduled for Wednesday, August 14th, 2024, at 12:45 PM Cairo Time. This program, developed in collaboration with WorldFish, aims to equip aquaculture professionals with advanced knowledge and practical insights into marine fish farming practices specific to Egypt.
Participants will gain valuable perspectives on the current status and future potential of marine aquaculture in Egypt, presented by Dr. Salah Mesalhy Aly. Dr. Sherif Sadek will lead discussions on marine seed production and share success stories, alongside strategies for future development in the sector. Dr. Abdel Fatah ElSayed will focus on the nutritional requirements and feed management essential for marine farms, ensuring sustainable and productive operations.
Critical to the program is the session on water quality requirements in mariculture systems, led by Dr. Mohamed Teleb, which will emphasize the importance of maintaining optimal conditions for fish health and growth. Additionally, Dr. Diaa Al-Kenawy will provide practical tips and techniques to help participants avoid common mistakes in marine fish farming.
The program will conclude with an open discussion and Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage with the speakers and discuss the challenges and opportunities in marine fish farming in Egypt.
This course is designed to enhance the expertise of professionals in the aquaculture industry, focusing on sustainable and efficient marine fish farming practices in Egypt.

Salah Eldin Mesalhy Aly has a Ph D. in Pathology ( 1994 ), Dept. Biol. Sci., Univ. Texas at El Paso, USA/Dept. Path., SCU, Egypt. He is now the Head of Pathology Department, College of Vet. Medicine, Suez Canal University, Egypt. He was the Head of Medical Laboratories Dept., College of Appl. Med. Sciences, Qassim Univ., KSA and the Senior Researcher and Program Leader of Fish Health Research for Africa and West Asia, WorldFish Center, Malaysia. Salah is a Member of the Animal Resources and Fisheries Research Council, Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Egypt. An Expert at the Arab Union for Wild and Marine Conservation and a Scientific Consultant for the Sinai Reconstruction Authority, Ministry of Housing and Urban Communities. He has a total of 105 master & Ph. D. thesis supervision and a total of 192 Scientific papers published.
Dr. Sherif Sadek
Immediate Past President, African Chapter, World Aquaculture Society and Aquaculture Consultant Office (ACO) creator and manager
During1986 1987, he has obtained a grant research study on the crustacean aquaculture at Auburn University, USA (Department of Fisheries and Allied Aquaculture). In 1998 , he has passed an exam on the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii ) culture, toobtain the degree of Docteur de l'INP from the Institut National Polytechnique (INP), Toulouse France. Since 1991 , and till today, hewas assigned as the creator and general manager of the firm "Aquaculture Consultant Office (ACO)". Sadek has been nominated asa consultant for different projects in North Africa and Arab countries. Since 2010 he is a partner and the general manager of theEgyptian Franco mariculture company ( Egymarine co.), in Manzala lake, Egypt. He has published around 40 complete scientific papers in different international journals and also 35 short papers in different local and international aquaculture conferences. Sadekhas been nominated to be the vice president for two Egyptian NGO organization: Egyptian Aquaculture Society ( EgAS ) and WestPort Said Aquaculture Cooperative ( WestPAC ). In August 2019 Sadek has been nominated the President for the African Chapter(AC), which belong to the World Aquaculture Society (WAS), for the coming two years. The AC will look for the development of the African aquaculture countries in the continent.
Dr. Abdel Fatah ElSayed
Professor in Oceanography Department, Faculty of Science, Alexandria University
Prof. Abdel-Fattah El-Sayed received his PhD degree in fish nutrition from Michigan State University, USA in 1987. He is currently a professor in Oceanography Department, Faculty of Science, Alexandria University, Egypt. He has also served as visiting professor to scientific institutions in Japan, Spain, Malaysia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Sultanate of Oman. Prof. El-Sayed has authored and co-authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications on aquaculture and fisheries, in addition to 4 books, 3 book chapters and several technical reports to international organizations. He has participated in many local, regional, and international aquaculture and fishery research projects. He also participated in over 50 international, regional and national conferences, in more than 30 countries on aquaculture and fisheries sciences, many of them as keynote speaker. Prof. El Sayed has also served as an aquaculture consultant for organizations including the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, the World Fisheries Trust (WFT), the WorldFish, the African Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). He currently serves as a member of the editorial board or advisory panel of a number of regional and internal aquaculture and fisheries journals and magazines, including: Aquaculture Research, Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Research and Aquafeed International.
Dr. Mohammed Teleb Abd El-Baky Khalil Mekawy
Dr. Mohammed Teleb Mekawy is an esteemed researcher at the Central Laboratory for Aquaculture Research (CLAR), specializing in limnology with a focus on soil, water quality, and sustainable aquaculture. With 20 years of experience in the commercial aquaculture industry, including a seven-year tenure as the Technical Support section head at Aller Aqua Egypt, Dr. Mekawy provides technical support and best management recommendations to fish farmers.
His academic background includes a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in aquaculture from Zagazig University, where he explored biological and nanotechnology treatment techniques for aquaculture water. Dr. Mekawy’s professional interests encompass aquatic ecology, climate change, and feed management.
Through his participation in numerous training programs, Dr. Mekawy empowers farmers and stakeholders with cutting-edge advancements and best practices. His commitment to fostering affordable, nutritious food production aligns with his efforts to ensure profitability and sustainability in the aquaculture sector.
Dr. Mekawy’s contributions extend to scientific and developmental projects at CLAR, and his active role in conferences, seminars, and workshops as both a lecturer and participant underscores his dedication to the development of the aquaculture sector.
Prof. Diaa Al-Kenawy
Head of Research, CLAR, Egypt
Diaa works as Head of Research at the Central Lab for Aquaculture Research, CLAR. He currently has over 30 years of experience in aquaculture. Diaa has studied Agricultural sciences and got a PhD in aquatic toxicology 2006 and has participated in and led many research and development projects as a scientist at WorldFish (1998-2021). He is mostly concerned about environment pollution and water quality and impact on fish resources. Diaa is involved in aquaculture and fisheries training programs to teach participants how to produce more affordable and nutritious food from sustainable fish farming. He led the WorldFish Egypt’s research on fish feeds and nutrition through the Global FISH CRP and is enthusiastic of teaching farmers and student’s the best farming practices.
