The severity of symptoms depends on the strain of the virus. There is no treatment for ND, so diseased birds must be humanely killed and disposed of properly.

Newcastle disease (ND) is a highly contagious viral infection that affects poultry, causing a wide range of signs and symptoms.

It is caused by virulent strains of avian paramyxovirus type 1.
The disease appears in three forms: lentogenic or mild, mesogenic or
moderate and velogenic or very virulent, also called Newcastle disease.
