PDI (Pellet Durability Index) Test for Poultry Feed Pellets:
Equipment: Holmen Pellet Durability Tester, sieves (1.18 mm, 3.35 mm), balance.
Steps:
1. Prepare 100g pellet sample.
2. Pre-sieve (3.35 mm).
3. Tumble in tester (10 min, 50 rpm).
4. Post-sieve (1.18 mm).
5. Weigh fines and remaining pellets.
Calculate PDI: (Weight of remaining pellets / Initial weight) x 100
Target: PDI ≥ 80% for satisfactory durability.

Firstly take 100 gm of pellets feed, run it in revolving box for at
least 3minutes and then sieve through 25 mesh, reweigh , retention
weight should be above 93 -

Pellet quality is usually expressed as the Pellet Durability Index(PDI) and measured by using a tumbling can device, in which the pellet sample to be tested is first sieved to remove fines, then tumbled in the tumbling can devise for a defined period of time.
