Soybeans can be successfully planted in late April or early May in Nigeria but final stands may be more erratic so an insecticide/fungicide seed treatment is recommended for late April and early May plantings.

Soybean grows well in warm and moist climate. A temperature of 26 to 30°C appears to be the optimum for most of the varieties. Soil temperatures of 15.5°C or above favor rapid germination and vigorous seedling growth.
high soil temperatures as much as 32°C can cause decreased nodulation and nitrogen fixation to occur in soybeans.

If we plant soya bean only in April or May in Nigeria, it means that there will always be scarcity.
The aim should be to plant it all year round perhaps using irrigation as done in Northern Nigeria.
