builds upon the containment requirements of BSL-3 and is the highest

The four levels of biosafety, or BSLs, are:
<ul jscontroller=”M2ABbc” jsaction=”jZtoLb:SaHfyb” data-hveid=”CBoQAQ” data-ved=”2ahUKEwjdhdS9of2JAxVmlP0HHUmpBpQQm_YKegQIGhAB”>
- BSL-1: Basic level for teaching and basic research
- BSL-2: Basic level for diagnosis and research, with more controlled access and safety equipment
- BSL-3: Containment level for special diagnosis and research, with more stringent access control and decontamination
- BSL-4: Maximum containment level for perilous pathogens units
-
The levels of biosecurity are based on mitigation of risks of any kind.
