Administer one dose reconstituted vaccine by wing-web method in chickens at 6-8 weeks of age or older and in turkeys at 8 weeks of age or older by thigh-stab application.

  • Wing-web method: This is the most common method. The vaccine is applied by puncturing the skin of the bird’s wing web (the area between the upper and lower parts of the wing) with a small, sterile needle or applicator that has been dipped in the vaccine. This method allows the vaccine to be absorbed through the skin.

  • Drinking water method: In some cases, especially in larger flocks, the vaccine may be added to the drinking water of the birds. The chickens ingest the vaccine as they drink, which allows it to be absorbed into their system.

Control and prevention in chickens is accomplished by vaccination by the wing web method with a commercially available fowl pox or pigeon pox vaccine. This should be administered to all chickens at 12-16 weeks of age. Vaccinated birds should be examined for takes about seven to ten days following inoculation.
