Birds should be weigh off feed ,to get the accurate measures.
I could remember vividly during my project year in school ,we put our measurement day on Sunday ,so once it’s Sunday night like 12am (i know in your mind ,you are thinking how do we do that, well we sleep in the pen cos the project is on genetics and breeding ,so we brood different batches of chicks),we withdraw feed from them because the measurements is usually done early in the morning .

Typically, measurements of birds are done 1-2 hours prior to feeding.
If weighing birds by hand with a hanging scale, birds should be securely suspended by both legs (any age) or both wings (preferably only birds that are >11 to 12 weeks of age when the skeletal structure is fully developed). Birds should be kept calm (no flapping and minimal movement) so that weighing can be completed quickly and efficiently. Upon completion of weighing, the bird should be carefully placed on the litter and not dropped directly from the suspended scale.
