AMEn stands for Apparent Metabolizable Energy, nitrogen-corrected, and it’s very important in poultry nutrition – especially for formulating efficient and balanced rations.

  • It’s the amount of energy from feed that is available to the bird for maintenance and production, after correcting for nitrogen (protein) retention.

  • Apparent = because it doesn’t account for endogenous losses.

  • Nitrogen-corrected (N-corrected) = means it’s adjusted to remove the influence of protein gain or loss, for more consistent energy comparisons between feeds.

  • AMEn = Gross energy intake – Energy in excreta – (8.22 8 * nitrogen retained) / feed intake

  • Where,

  • Gross energy and energy in excreta are measured using a bomb calorimeter (kcal)

  • Nitrogen retained = Nitrogen intake – Nitrogen excreted (g)

  • 8.22 is the energy correction factor per gram of nitrogen retained (kcal/g), based on the energy value of uric acid in birds.

Sustainability is the ability to maintain or support a process over time without depleting natural or physical resources. Sustainability is the future. Every segment development it must be considered for a longer run.
