Ivan Dario Montilla Muelle, Quality Coordinator, Solla S.A., Colombia
At Solla, one of Colombia’s leading animal feed producers, Ivan Dario Montilla plays a critical role in ensuring quality is never compromised. With a background in engineering, Ivan has spent 15 years building deep expertise in feed manufacturing, process control, and quality assurance across multi-species production systems.
Based at Solla’s Antioquia plant, one of six nationwide, Ivan oversees laboratory analysis and in-plant process control for feeds serving poultry, swine, dairy, and other species. Managing operations that run around the clock and encompass dozens of unique product formulations, Ivan ensures every product leaving the plant meets strict quality and safety standards. Over his tenure, he has supported plant start-ups, led quality initiatives across multiple facilities, and today serves as the company’s second-in-command for national quality management.
Ivan joined the SEC Americas in 2023, beginning with the feed manufacturing learning track at Zamorano University. He subsequently broadened his participation to include learning tracks for poultry, swine, and dairy. The experience strengthened his technical perspective beyond manufacturing, helping him better understand how feed quality directly impacts animal performance in the field.
By the final quarter of 2025, Ivan emerged as one of SEC Americas’ most engaged participants, earning the highest cumulative points on the community leaderboard through active participation in four of the five virtual communities: Poultry, Swine, Feed Mill, and Dairy. He now regularly shares SEC insights through monthly internal training, reinforcing a culture of continuous improvement within his teams.
His key takeaway from his learnings with SEC: “With the U.S. soy, quality is stable and predictable. That consistency gives us confidence in every formulation and every decision we make.”
Looking to the future, Ivan aspires to become Solla’s National Quality Manager, guided by a simple belief: quality is not just a standard. It is a promise.

The business model presented by engineer Ivan Dario Montella is an outstanding example of integrating industrial quality control with animal production performance in the feed sector, a cornerstone of the success of modern animal production chains.
Scientifically, his observations regarding the consistency of raw material quality—particularly soybeans—align with numerous studies in animal nutrition. Consistency in chemical composition and nutritional value is crucial for: improving feed conversion ratios (FCRs), stabilizing growth and production rates, reducing performance variability among herds, and enhancing the efficiency of precision nutrition programs.
What Ivan presented confirms that quality in the feed industry is no longer an option, but a strategic factor that directly impacts the efficiency and sustainability of livestock production. Quality is not merely a standard, but a “promise” whose impact extends from the factory to the farm and then to the end consumer.
