Use of Antibiotics as growth promoters must be discouraged. The use of strict biosecurity programme and judicious use of antibiotics upon confirmation of sensitivity of the test must be applied. Antibiotics are a boon and essential to the existence of all, therefore precautions must be administered when it comes to their use.

We can contribute to reduce antimicrobial resistance by completely eliminating the prophylactic use of antibiotics in animal production. In other words, antibiotics should not be given to animals in the absence of confirmed bacterial diseases. Furthermore, when a bacterial disease is present and whenever possible, an antibiogram should be performed to determine the susceptibility of the pathogenic bacteria to various antibiotics. This will ensure that the use of the most effective antibiotic. Finally, antibiotics should be used under strict veterinary prescription and adhering to all the indications, dosage, and withdrawal period listed on the label of the antibiotic.

Addressing Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in poultry requires a multi-faceted approach. Here are some strategies to help combat AMR:

    *Improving Poultry Health*

    – *Enhanced Biosecurity*: Implement strict biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of diseases.

    – *Good Nutrition*: Provide balanced diets to promote healthy growth and immune systems.

    – *Strong Vaccination Programs*: Develop and implement effective vaccination programs to reduce disease incidence.

    *Reducing Antibiotic Usage*

    – *Veterinary Supervision*: Use antibiotics only under veterinary supervision to ensure responsible usage.

    – *Eliminate Antibiotic Growth Promoters*: Stop using antibiotics for growth promotion purposes.

    – *Alternatives to Antibiotics*: Explore alternatives like¹ ²:

    – *Mannan-rich fraction (MRF)*: Derived from yeast cell walls, MRF supports gut health and reduces antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

    – *Bacteriophages*: Viruses that target specific bacteria, offering a promising alternative to antibiotics.

    *Holistic Approach*

    – *Disease Surveillance*: Monitor and track disease outbreaks to inform control strategies.

    – *Vector Control*: Implement measures to control vectors that can spread diseases.

    – *Gut Health Management*: Focus on maintaining healthy gut microbiomes in poultry.

    – *Regulatory Frameworks*: Establish and enforce strict regulations to limit antibiotic use in poultry farming.³

By adopting these strategies, the poultry industry can reduce its contribution to AMR, ensuring a safer food supply and protecting public health.Addressing Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in poultry requires a multi-faceted approach. Here are some strategies to help combat AMR:
