    Los <strong data-start=”4″ data-end=”33″>biofiltros en acuicultura sirven para mantener la calidad del agua al eliminar compuestos tóxicos generados por los propios peces o camarones, principalmente en sistemas cerrados o de recirculación (RAS).

    Su función es transformar el <strong data-start=”268″ data-end=”291″>amoníaco (NH/NH₄⁺) —producido por las excretas y restos de alimento— en compuestos menos tóxicos mediante bacterias beneficiosas.

    Este proceso se llama <strong data-start=”496″ data-end=”513″>nitrificación y es realizado por bacterias como <em data-start=”548″ data-end=”562″>Nitrosomonas y <em data-start=”565″ data-end=”578″>Nitrobacter que colonizan el material del biofiltro.
