Avian influenza (bird flu), particularly strains like H5N1, can be transmitted to fish, usually through contamination of aquatic environments by infected wild birds, with some studies detecting the virus in fish, shellfish, and pond water. While fish may not die from it as easily as birds, they can act as vectors. Prevention focuses on strict biosecurity, avoiding mixing poultry/wildlife with aquaculture, and monitoring water quality, as there is no specific treatment for fish.
