    Blood on an eggshell is usually caused by a ruptured blood vessel in the hen’s oviduct or cloaca, commonly occurring in young pullets just starting to lay (pullet eggs), older hens, or when a hen passes a very large egg.

    • Stress or sudden fright to birds

    • Vent pecking or injury

    • Young layers just starting production

    • Prolapse of oviduct

    • Nutritional deficiency (Vitamin K, Vitamin A)

    • High body weight or obesity
