In summer, the ideal calorie-to-protein ratio for broilers is typically around 10-12:1. This ratio helps ensure that birds receive sufficient energy while maintaining protein levels to support growth and muscle development. Adjusting the diet to account for heat stress is crucial to optimize feed intake and overall performance.

The Calorie Protein ration is calculated by dividing the total calorie content of the feed (in Kcal) by the protein percentage of the feed.

In starter rations, it will be around 135 and in finisher diets, it will be around 150-160 or more depending on the performance.

Here, attached an old reference for this. Please refer.

During summer, the ration of calorie to protein should be lowered compared to the cooler months. So for every 30 calories there should be 1 protein. 30: 1

In nutrition we normally do not refer to calorie-to-protein ratio, that is a human nutrition term. In poultry nutrition we can calculate the ratio of grams of digestible lysine to megacalorie of metabolizable energy in a diet, which can vary from 3.0 to 4.5 depending on the age of the bird, its genetic potential for lean tissue deposition and its nutritional needs.

Sir, Can you please elaborate on ME (Mcal) : Dig. Lysine (Grams) ratio ?

This is better explained with an example. If a feed contains 1.15% of standardized ileal digestible (SID) lysine and 3,095 kcal of metabolizable energy, then we calculate the grams of SID lysine per kg of feed: 1.15*10=11.5. Then we calculate the amount of ME in Mcal per kg of diet: 3095/1000=3.095. Now we calculated the SID lysine/ME as: 11.5/3.095= 3.72. Therefore, we have a ratio of 3.72 grams of SID lysine per each Mcal of ME.

For finishing broiler chickens, a protein level of 20% and energy level of 3000 kcal/kg diet may be recommended. The optimum time of change from broiler starter to broiler finisher may be recommended at 5 or 6 weeks of age.
