The most suitable source for Dietary Electrolyte Balance (DEB) varies slightly between winter and summer, but generally, a combination of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and potassium chloride (KCl) is recommended, especially during summer and in heat-stressed environments. During winter, the primary focus should be on ensuring adequate sodium, chloride, and potassium levels to maintain overall health, while in summer, higher levels of these electrolytes, particularly sodium, can be beneficial for growth, but increased water intake may be observed. Potassium and chloride are also crucial in the diets of heat-stressed birds.

a combination of NaHCO3 and KCl in broiler diets is often recommended to optimize DEB during both summer and winter, addressing the specific physiological needs of the birds in each season
