What are the different stages of lactation in dairy cows?

Early Lactation:
This phase, usually lasting from days 1 to 100, is marked by peak milk production. Cows may be losing weight during this time as feed intake lags behind milk production needs.
Mid Lactation:
Occurring between days 100 and 200, this stage sees a decline in milk production as the cow’s body recovers from the initial demands of lactation. Cows are typically settled after mating during this period.
Late Lactation:
From days 200 to 305 (or until drying off), milk production continues to decline. The length of this stage depends on factors like nutrition and the cow’s overall health.
Dry Period:
This is a period of rest and recovery before the next calving. It typically lasts for 60-90 days and allows the cow’s body to prepare for the next lactation.
