Chicken diseases can stem from various causes, including infectious agents like viruses, bacteria, and fungi, as well as parasitic infestations by protozoa, worms, and external parasites like mites and lice. Nutritional deficiencies, toxic substances, and even physical damage or injuries can also lead to illness.
1. Infectious Diseases:
Viruses: Avian influenza, Marek’s disease, and infectious bronchitis are examples of viral diseases that can affect chickens.
Bacteria: Avian colibacillosis and avian tuberculosis are caused by bacterial infections.
Fungi: Aspergillosis is a fungal disease that can affect chickens.
2. Parasitic Diseases:
Protozoa: Coccidiosis is a parasitic disease caused by protozoa that affects the gut.
Worms: Internal parasites like roundworms can infest chickens.
External Parasites: Mites, lice, and fleas are common external parasites that can cause irritation and diseases.
3. Nutritional Deficiencies:
Lack of essential vitamins and minerals can lead to various health problems.
Improper or inadequate nutrition can cause metabolic and nutritional diseases.
4. Other Causes:
Toxic substances: Consumption of poisonous substances can lead to illness.
Physical damage/injuries: Environmental extremes or accidents can cause injuries that lead to disease.
Poor sanitation: Contaminated water, feed, and environments can spread diseases.
Mechanical transmission: Contaminated equipment or shoes can transmit diseases.
Genetic factors: Some diseases, like Marek’s disease, have genetic components
