Egg peritonitis in laying hens occurs when yolk material (often due to internal laying or oviduct issues) enters the abdominal cavity, causing infection. Signs include a swollen, firm, or hot abdomen, “penguin-like” upright waddling, lethargy, decreased appetite, and halted egg production. Prevention focuses on limiting stress, controlling body weight, proper nutrition, and avoiding premature lighting to prevent early laying
