The main energy sources can be categorized into two types: renewable and non-renewable.
Non-Renewable Energy Sources:
1. Fossil Fuels:
Coal: Used primarily for electricity generation and industrial processes.
Oil (Petroleum): Used in transportation, heating, and electricity generation.
Natural Gas: Used in electricity generation, heating, and as a feedstock for chemicals.
2. Nuclear Energy: Uses nuclear reactions (such as fission) to generate heat, which is then converted into electricity.
Renewable Energy Sources:
1. Solar Energy: Captures sunlight using solar panels or thermal systems to generate electricity or heat.
2. Wind Energy: Uses wind turbines to convert wind movement into electricity.
3. Hydropower: Uses the flow of water (e.g., dams or rivers) to generate electricity.
4. Biomass: Organic material (like wood, agricultural waste, or algae) is burned or processed to produce energy.
