Environmental temperature and bird activity level have a direct impact on energy requirements in poultry.

    Temperature effect

When environmental temperature is below the thermoneutral zone, birds require more energy to maintain body heat (increased metabolic rate).

When temperature is above the thermoneutral zone, birds reduce feed intake, but expend energy on thermoregulation (panting, heat dissipation), which reduces productive efficiency.

Optimal temperatures allow energy to be used primarily for growth, maintenance, and production.

    Activity level effect

Increased activity (movement, stress, flight attempts) leads to higher energy expenditure.

Birds with low activity (controlled environments) have better feed conversion efficiency.

Excessive activity can divert energy away from growth or egg production.

    Energy requirements increase when:

    Temperature deviates from optimal conditions

    Activity level rises

Efficient production depends on maintaining thermal comfort and controlled activity.

Higher temperture and lower activity reduces energy needs, while cold or higher activity increase energy requirements
