    Hammer mill tip speed is the speed at which the hammers of a hammermill rotate, specifically the speed of the hammer tips as they travel in a circular path. It’s a critical factor in determining the particle size of the material being ground, with higher tip speeds generally resulting in finer particles.

    Calculation:

    Tip speed is calculated by multiplying the rotational speed of the hammer mill’s rotor (measured in RPM) by the circumference of the arc traced by the hammer tips. The formula is:

    Tip Speed = (RPM * π * Diameter) / 12 (in feet per minute)

    Tip Speed = (RPM * π * Diameter) (in meters per minute)
