Micro-ingredients in poultry feed are vital nutrients and additives used in small quantities (less than 1% of the total mix) to ensure balanced nutrition, boost immunity, and improve growth, including essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids (like Methionine, Lysine), enzymes, salt, and medications (coccidiostats, antibiotics). They are premixed separately and then added to the larger “macro” ingredients for uniform distribution, preventing nutrient deficiencies or imbalances.

Micro-ingredients are specialized nutritional or functional components added to animal feed in minute quantities, typically accounting for less than 1% of the total formulation. This category encompasses essential vitamins, trace minerals (such as zinc and copper), crystalline amino acids, enzymes for improved nutrient bioavailability, and specialized additives like antioxidants, probiotics, and pigments. While macro-ingredients like soybean meal or fishmeal provide bulk protein and energy, micro-ingredients act as the metabolic drivers responsible for optimizing growth, immunity, and reproductive health. Due to their extreme potency and low inclusion rates, they must be meticulously weighed and often undergo a “pre-mixing” process with a carrier to ensure uniform distribution throughout the final diet, thereby preventing the risk of localized nutrient deficiencies or chemical toxicities.
