Vaccinate breeder flocks to provide passive immunity to chicks.

Gumboro disease is a highly contagious viral infection, also known as (Infectious Bursal Disease – IBD) that affects the immune system of young chickens, especially broilers aged 3 to 6 weeks. It targets the bursa of Fabricius leading to immunosuppression, making birds more susceptible to other infections.
Causes:
Agent: Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV), a birnavirus.
Transmission:
Horizontal: Direct contact with infected birds or contaminated equipment, feed, water, clothing. Highly resistant to disinfectants and survives long in the environment.
Clinical Signs:
Sudden onset with high morbidity, Ruffled feathers, especially around the vent, Diarrhea, soiled vents, Dehydration, trembling, Pecking at the vent area due to pain, Mortality usually occurs within 3 days of onset, Immunosuppression leads to poor vaccine response and secondary infections.
Prevention and Control:
Vaccination strategy, biosecurity measures, environmental management, early detection and isolation, supportive treatment.
