Ventilation is very important for the health and productivity of poultry. If proper ventilation is not ensured, the risk of poultry becoming sick increases, productivity decreases and mortality rates can also increase. Ventilation techniques are generally used to control temperature, humidity and gas concentrations.

The effects that lack of ventilation can have on poultry health and productivity are:

    Disease spread:

Pathogens can spread rapidly in a closed environment, as polluted air and humidity encourage the spread of disease-causing microbes.

    Respiratory distress:

High concentrations of ammonia and other gases can cause respiratory distress, which seriously affects the health and productivity of poultry.

    Temperature and humidity control:

Ventilation helps control temperature and humidity, which are essential for poultry health. Excess humidity can promote the growth of pathogens and fungi.

    Stress:

Lack of adequate ventilation in a closed environment can cause stress in poultry, which lowers their immune system.

    Ammonia poisoning:

High concentrations of ammonia can cause ammonia poisoning, which leads to respiratory distress, weakness, and death.

    Unsanitary environment:

Dirt and waste accumulate quickly in a closed environment, creating a breeding ground for pathogens and insects.

    Some common ventilation techniques:

    Natural ventilation:

Keeping doors, windows, and vents open allows for natural ventilation.

    Mechanical ventilation:

    Ventilation using fans.

    Temperature control:

Heaters can be used to keep the house warm during winter.

    Humidity control:

Dehumidifiers can be used to reduce excess humidity.

Ensure that the ventilation channels are clean, so that air can circulate easily.

    House design:

The poultry house should be designed in such a way that natural ventilation is good.

By adopting proper ventilation techniques, the poultry housing can be kept healthy and comfortable, which will help in keeping them healthy and increasing productivity.
