Hybridization in breeding and genetics is the process of crossing two different breeds of chickens with pure lines to produce an hybrid or offspring that shares the peculiar traits or characteristics of the two parents.
The resultant hybrid or offspring will enhance poultry productivity as follows.
Reduction in cost of procurement of pure lines since hybrid birds possesses some valuable traits needed from the two pure lines parents.
Hybrid birds are known to be disease resistance.
Hybrid birds are also more adaptable to the environment than their parents. For example, Heat stress resistance or cold resistance.
Improved growth rate is also achieved in hybrid chickens or Animals.
In layers, improved egg production and egg qualities are also achieved with hybrid layers.
In Broilers for meat production, Improved age at slaughtering, Carcass yield and overall meat qualities are also accomplished with hybrid Broilers.

When certain breeds are crossed, sex linkage allows the sex of the chicks to be established at a day old by a difference in down colour, which is useful when producing hens for laying since it reduces the rearing costs to the breeder and ultimately the price you pay

The primary advantage of hybrid poultry is increased productivity. Hybrid birds are designed to meet specific needs, making them ideal for large-scale commercial production. Hybrid layers like ISA Browns and Lohmann Browns have high laying capacities, often producing more than 300 eggs per year.
