In winter, bedding should be checked daily and changed as needed, but as a general guide: Spot-clean wet or dirty areas every day

Add fresh, dry bedding regularly (top up)
Fully change the bedding every 1–2 weeks, or sooner if it becomes wet, smelly, or compacted. Keeping bedding dry and deep helps maintain warmth, hygiene, and bird health during cold weather.

In the winter period, changing bedding often is not advisable. Only remove wet spots daily, top up with dry litter when needed, and carry out a full change at the end of the cycle or if there is ammonia buildup or foul smell.

Bedding should ideally be changed every one to two weeks during winter to maintain hygiene, the same frequency as other seasons [1, 2, 3]. While warmer weather can increase sweating and the need for more frequent changes, winter often brings drier skin, meaning the general guideline remains consistent

In winter, bedding (sheets and pillowcases) should ideally be changed and washed at least every two weeks, and preferably once a week. While you may sweat less in colder months, dead skin cells, body oils, and allergens still accumulate, providing a breeding ground for dust mites.
